The Sport of Equestrian Mounted Drill is a unique and exhilarating performance of strategic routines bringing together grace and daring to the art of horsemanship. Precision maneuvers and intertwining over a dozen horses are carefully and skillfully choreographed to music which flows into a kaleidoscope of patterns. Each rider and horse must be in tune with one another. Movements are calculated to the very second, and the slightest touch to the horse by the rider must be responded to and executed with ease.

Drill Teams from Wisconsin , Illinois and Ohio take part in this exciting event.

A GRAND AMERICAN SHOOT

What is Mounted Shooting? Mounted Shooting is like barrel racing with balloons in between the barrels. The rider shoots black powder blank cartridges from .45 caliber single action revolvers at balloons, and is scored on accuracy and time. Clothing worn is as authentic as possible to the late 1800’s. Safety in horse training and firearm handling are emphasized at all times. Many clubs sponsor clinics to assist new shooters in starting their horses and learn the basics of safe firearm handling. Range masters are in the arena at all times during competitions to insure safe riding and shooting is exercised. New shooters are usually required to demonstrate that they have achieved minimum acceptable levels of riding and shooting skills.
